La Linea ? atari 800 pokey

Some italo sound, some colors.... reminding of something ;) Even the voice reminds somehow of it. The tune is widely reworked.... and it makes more fun to see the waves while listening ;) If you watch the middle line. Nothing is random. Every wave shaping has it's sounds...

One more for today. As this is my personal favourite of that time. The ambient produces goosebumps to me, still today.

The same guy that did the 1st row of RMT patches, provided me a lot recordings from the real thing, back in 2012 . I found the folder today in my backups. For some comparision point. The Altirra sounds almost correct, but a little too harsh compared to the real HW. The tunes also show that ALTIRRA is timing correct.

You can create circles out of endless squares..... And you can create squares out of endless circles ;) While other Soundchips create noisy sawtooth waves , using PoKey you can create noisy sawtooth waves using square waves ;)

A slight change at the bass and some timing corrections later.... Do you get the difference from the last vid ?

Unstable timing is a real mess when editing it in RMT. In Altirra itself , it plays fine. One note is still messy . You might recognize it. To get that solved, it is a trial and error in RMT... doing changes... export.... test in Altirra .... till the note is correct. On the other hand, it is shown on the diplay why it sounds as it sounds. So it isn't really boring :)
2008 Tune atari 800 pokey Corrscope view

In older RMT (1,25, 1,27) version I found this type of tuning. You might see the quick resizing at the PWM waves. We named it "broad sounds" . It's actually some fast correction of the pitch. Far superior to the raw 15kHz resolution. Sadly, back in that days (2006, 2008) , it wasn't possible to show that results. Luckily, today it is possible :)
Dual Tune atari 800 pokey

just for comparision the 4 channel view in Altirra. The Audio monitor does in no way show what's happening for real. I hope, Altirra will get a better visualisation for that, as it helps a lot to form the waves . OK... it would be even better, if one can look at the resulting wave shapes while editing the instruments :D. If you look closer at the Corrscope Video, you might recognize some "digit...

My biggest concern still ist to get the Orbits sounds of the Polycounter fitting together. So in the silent part the sound is somehow muted, for the fun part it is still open.

How do you phase reset the pulse on the POKEY?
makes me wanna use weapon_gauss
ngl I prefer the gluon gun
alloyrun?
Yeah
@@groovingood I love alloyrun
POKEY goodness
Thanks. Believe it or not. The limits were just in the software, not in the hardware.
@@IXSVideo I know. Isn’t that amazing!
NICE!!!!!!!
Nice
Really mastering that fine PWM control man
Thanks. But I also still have to thank you for the changes in RMT . For me the 1.31 is still the most powerful version. It's just the timing in the emulation that makes things problematic. Not sure why this is, as much more powerful emulations of other chips work to a degree that makes it impossible to hear the difference between the chip and the programmed emulation. Altirra is timing perfect. But why is the emulation jumping in the editor? Imagine also a "corrscope" view, while editing the waveshapes. Even sawtooth waves were possible with that. Just the volume offset in the channels and the correct pulse time.... voilá ....
Very nice one, was this made with the analmux patch?
The original tune in RMT 1.25 didn't use the 1.79MHz, because the notes had been off. Analmux did the Patch 1.27 for using gen. 2 fitting to the 15kHz tuning for the used octaves. Actually, it was a cursed time. With Atariage as the only platform to talk about development , no Corrscope to show what's going on , too much Trolls in the forums ... I had to learn how to make things sounding like music ;) Explaining the missing steps was like blaming people for them. So any discussion was like an Armageddon trip. Just any Thread was entered by the trolls. Judging by their own imagination, not about the technical stuff and solutions.
Light orange lines on a light gray background is hard to distinguish anything. Also POKEY has 4 audio channels unless you were using 2 in 16-bit mode.
It's Filter PWM , not 16 Bit. Two channels were combined to form a dedicated waveshape. Next time I'll put more contrast to the colors again.
Exquisite PWM control here man!
Thanks. It's only available when using PWM on the Filter. That 2 tone thing is a great solution, if you want to use 15kHz. The Filter with PWM is like some 16bit + 16 bit ....absolutely stunning what it can offer.
The Filter makes really good Brass Chords in this one.
In RMT is sounds the same. But for some reason the digital recording in Altirra makes this effect weaker.
Black Lamp, Loriens Tomb, that area. Nice.
This time supported by real PWM , triangle and Synth waves ... Still the same chip from 1979...
Nice sounds
Całkiem niezła muzyczka, wymiata :)
Ohh so it did work after all, very nice!
You did really some precious software . Still 1000 thanks for that every day :)
*Leekspinning intensifies*
What ?
Ahhh. I entered "leekspin" to search the internet. Now I get it. To be honest, I know that "Ievan Polka" from another TikTok trend :D
Seems, we need a Graphics 10 spinning animation ;)
I like
Thanks. But I'm feeling a little paralyzed yet, as the software isn't growing to where it should. This version of RMT has bugs that makes some things impossible. Newer versions of RMT are too big in size of the runtime. dxRMT will never get finished ..... and so on. At least it is nice to see when people like the results within the given software limits.
@@IXSVideo That is a pity, maybe you could program it yourself if the source code is available. seems daunting at first but programming is basically just decisions , jumps and calculation, tables etc... Appreciate your work and comment ty
Haha, first!
Sound great with new sounds and filters! Make a tension ambient, that is not easy with pokey, congratulations!
Glad, you like it.
isnt your name stolen?
What do you mean exactly ?
I dont see some suspicious in nickname too
@@mjoldagg i forgot...
Quite a nice track :) Cheers!
Thanks. Do you recognize that it is only working by the perfect PWM usage ? PWM is really no "random" thing with PoKey.
*Promosm*
This make a fantastic mistery ambient!
Thanks. That was the goal :)
Nice graphics, nice colors. Atari rulez!
Nicht schlecht!!!
Danke.
Danke.
Title little intrigues me.
What do you mean exactly ?
@@IXSVideo different step. Why top spectrum is so not to precise/clear, a lot of noise.
My day was like this song
You really do some great work you know ! If possible I would like to use and credit some of your music on my intro's, with link to your channel...?
Thanks. I wonder which tunes you might chose. I see a problem in a missing place where we could exchange informations and files . Possibly Discord ?
@@IXSVideo I am not too bothered, whatever tune you think is good... May help you get more noticed :-)
Interesting²
thanks² :D
2024: I still think of my old 2600 often
Interesting
It's still challenging to fiddle through all the obstacles :) I wonder, if someone realizes the waveform in the bass line. It's typically NES ...
What was the effect that was not reachable in the editor?
There is a short activation of gen. 2 where it should be at 1.79MHz and results in 15kHz appearance. This gives a nice crunch. What makes me still wondering is the difference of timing inside the editor and while playing in Altirra. You know, even in dxRMT , which is playing at 100 % of the same resources, can sound different , when played in Altirra. The tunes in the NYD 2024 show that Altirra itself is perfectly solving the timing, compared to the real thing.
@@IXSVideo oh that yeah it was a bug lol Just setting the cmd7 1 tick later in newer versions would produce similar results, I have been exploiting a similar trick recently to force the player to play 1 tick at 64khz before switching to 15khz for enhancing the texture of my bass sounds.
Nice one 🙂
Cool PWM in the Channel 2
Means full control there...
Sadly, the Altirra visualization isn't locking the waveforms. It would be more obvious, if the viewer always sees what's happening. The viewport is kept small, because it shows the results sometimes stable. Would be nice, if Phaeron was adding such a feature, to always show the waveforms....
Hichord has
May be 1/2 bass tone up
I feel like this song!
With a title like that I expected a Sorting Algorithm type beat in the sound 😹
Pretty cool, pretty cool!
Hoho, interesing! Thanks for sharing.
You make some really sick beats lately, I like it!
Thanks. Since I'm a fan of those "latino" beats and "pizzicato" sounds ... :D Also, you get those short video clips in the social media, using always the hook of any song. Also, the quality of the hook points to the audio device. I wonder, if it still is possible to create music with POKEY that is recognized as music some day by peoply who just like to listen to music, if you understand .
@@IXSVideo Absolutely!
Really good usage of the high 1.79mhz mode, this sounds great with the 15khz pwm
Very nice one Emkay, I like this beat.
